The goal? Eliminate hunger in Montgomery County through food distribution, education, and advocacy. Recovering food from local grocery stores, farmers, and farmers markets, Manna is the largest food rescue program in the County. It serves more than 3,500 families from multiple sites, provides food county-wide to partners such as emergency shelters, food pantries, and smaller community agencies (at no charge), and delivers food to home-bound seniors and people with disabilities. Its Weekend Bag program provides bags full of healthy food to 4,200 school-age children and families every Friday, so they don’t go hungry during the weekends. With hunger an ongoing and persistent problem, Manna has risen to the challenge, sharing more than 5 million pounds of food with 37,493 neighbors, nearly 10,000 of whom turned to Manna for the first time, last year - because no one should begin the day on an empty stomach.
