ANV allows older adults to age safely in their homes and remain connected within a caring community. Its network of 300+ volunteers provides practical assistance to over 500 seniors every year, including rides to medical appointments, grocery pickups, tech support, household chores, and other errands. Along the way, they also serve as friendly visitors, walking buddies, and phone companions, building authentic relationships that counter senior loneliness. ANV’s robust social calendar engages seniors in a weekly speaker series, tai chi, book club sessions, holiday potlucks, and more, while staff oversee small groups of volunteers in leading Care Circles to provide personalized support to seniors on limited incomes or without family nearby. Since its founding, ANV volunteers have donated some 92,450 hours to help seniors in need, proving that a village model of care can sustain dignity and autonomy.

About Spur Local
Every year, 190+ local nonprofits (with budgets under $4M) apply to join the Spur Local network. 170+ community volunteers assess these applications for impact. 100% of organizations are site visited and financially reviewed. Finally, 76+ critical, local nonprofits are selected for inclusion in Spur Local's annual print and digital catalog, and enter a four-year partnership with us. Since 2003, we have raised over $65 million for nonprofits across the Greater Washington region. We charge no fees and raise funds separately to support our work.
Spur Local looks to friends like you to keep our services independent and entirely free of charge. Consider a small contribution to Spur Local to cap off your gift and help the causes you care about get the full support they deserve!
