Many African immigrant and refugee families raising children with developmental disabilities face language, cultural, and systemic barriers to accessing services. EESNC provides culturally responsive education and support to help families advocate for themselves and their children. Through a 12-session Caregiver Skills Training Program, families learn evidence-based strategies for communication, behavior management, daily living skills, and navigating education and healthcare systems. Interactive workshops, group discussions, one-on-one consultations, support groups, and expert Q&As let families share experiences and build a strong support network. Children build peer connections through social and cultural activities, while older youth and adults receive mentorship, job-readiness training, and individualized guidance exploring career pathways. Having served more than 700 families, EESNC plays a unique role in engaging African immigrant families and helping individuals with disabilities and their families thrive.
