For three decades, EBOL has supported the long-term well-being of households in DC’s Brightwood neighborhood, where many face food insecurity and economic instability. As a co-owner of the Beacon Center, a 99-unit affordable housing community, EBOL ensures stable housing for more than 270 residents while leveraging the space as a hub for residents and local organizations to gather. It distributes groceries, essential supplies, and nutrition resources, such as simple recipes, twice every month, and provides multilingual signage and transportation support to help seniors access the site. Additional seasonal and large-scale distributions respond to community needs. It also serves immigrant residents by partnering with legal firms to expand access to clinic and case navigation services and offers microbusiness owners and aspiring entrepreneurs an annual cohort program to gain practical business training. A trusted community anchor, EBOL illuminates pathways to hope.
