AiA was founded by a DC mom following the stillbirth of her daughter and, today, partners with hospitals and maternal health organizations to support families after loss. Every year, it distributes hundreds of trauma-informed bereavement support kits to women and birthing people following miscarriage, stillbirth, or neonatal loss. For many, these grounding self-care items, bilingual resources, and pathways to follow-up support bridge a critical gap in their experience of maternal and perinatal care. AiA supplements its kits with a virtual resource hub that includes culturally responsive and evidence-informed guidance on grief and navigating postpartum recovery and provides support books for partners and living children. It also works directly with hospital staff and healthcare providers to strengthen trauma-informed and culturally competent bereavement care. AiA provides tangible resources for families the moment they are needed most.
