Forty years ago, a group of religious congregations of different faiths came together to address the challenges of homelessness and poverty in Frederick County. Today, with over 300 persons homeless in Frederick, the need remains a pressing one. Safe, warm overnight sleeping accommodations are provided for men and women, and an emergency family shelter annually serves 25-35 families, providing overnight shelter to more than 100 individuals about two-thirds of whom are children. All Coalition clients participate in case management to help them exit homelessness. Financial assistance to prevent eviction or secure new housing, pay for lifesaving prescription medications, vaccines, emergency dental care for those who suffer from dental neglect, fresh produce, school supplies – are provided to those who are eligible and in need. A strong advocate for the homeless throughout the pandemic, the Coalition remains a strong partner and advocate today.
