Story Tapestries infuses Greater Washington with creative energy, interweaving professional performances and community arts programming. Led by a network of professional artists and educators, its collaboratively-designed workshops, performances, exhibits, and artist residencies vary in content, length, and format, depending on the needs and goals of the target community. Preschoolers with diverse abilities practice storytelling through dance; Latino youth explore slam poetry during a series of writing workshops; teachers and librarians learn to apply the arts to any curriculum through professional development training. Remarkably, these services are delivered at low or no cost, and nearly all include free public performances by professional artists, enriching the broader community and sparking dialogue across ages and cultures. Reaching more than 350,000 people annually (including tens of thousands from high-poverty schools), Story Tapestries teaches us that everyone has a story worth sharing.
