The first time someone holds their own house keys marks a transformative milestone. DC Doors sees this in action when they move residents experiencing homelessness into long-term, stable housing. For many participants in its Permanent Supportive Housing program, being safely housed gives them the right to belong somewhere, supported by regular home-based visits, healthcare connections, and individualized stabilization plans. Because many young adults in DC face high living costs, limited affordable housing, and unstable income, DC Doors also addresses youth homelessness through the city’s only 24/7 drop-in center for ages 18-24. DC Doors supports the community through a monthly food pantry open to all District residents, remaining available on an ongoing basis for registered clients. From meeting basic needs to housing, employment, healthcare, and legal support, DC Doors creates pathways to stable futures with dignity.
