Washington DC has the highest per-capita LGBTQ+ population of any state, with 9.6 percent of the population identifying as LGBTQ+. The DC Center provides more than 20 free peer support groups for people to share stories, explore their identities, and learn from each other’s experiences. It also offers mental health services for victims of violence and trauma: individual and couples therapy, and therapist-led groups for processing trauma, learning coping techniques, and exploring other ways to heal. Center Arts is home to the arts and culture programs — from LGBTQ+ Film, Literary, and Theatre Festivals to LGBTQ+ gallery exhibits (six of the seven most recent ones were by local BIPOC artists). Peer support, health and wellness, arts and culture, and smart referrals to other providers: The DC Center envisions communities where LGBTQ+ people are safe, supported, enriched, and affirmed.
