- Volunteer Opportunities / Responsibilities: Fairfax CASA volunteers advocate for the best interests of children have been found to be abused or neglected by the Fairfax Juvenile & Domestic Relations Circuit Court. Every child with an open case is appointed a CASA volunteer. All CASA volunteers undergo extensive training; no prior experience in child welfare or the law is required. The duties and responsibilities of a CASA volunteer on a case include the following:
Visiting each child assigned in the case at least twice monthly and making other contacts as necessary.
Completing an intensive independent review of each case.
Reporting findings to the court and ensuring representation of the childs best interest.
Monitoring the case following a court hearing or decision as designated by the court.
Communicating regularly with the Guardian at litem assigned to the case.
Participating in ongoing training, and a minimum of 12 continuing education hours annually after the first year.
Attending an annual face-to-face evaluation session with the volunteer supervisor.
Participating in regularly meeting case conference with the volunteer supervisor to review progress on the case.
Participating in other meetings as necessary.
For those who are unable to meet the time commitments of being a CASA volunteer, we are always looking for assistance for our annual Run for the Children 8k Race and 3k Walk, which takes place each spring.
