When Academy of Hope equips adults with real-world skills, it not only provides them with more paths of opportunity – but strengthens outcomes for their children too. In DC, one in five adults face significant challenges reading a newspaper, understanding a map, or completing a job application. Many pause their education because of circumstances beyond their control, including illness or discrimination. So, as one of the few adult public charter schools in the country, Academy of Hope works with adult learners of all levels through free courses in beginning literacy, math, technology, and more. Some study for the GED while others pursue hands-on career training in the hospitality, healthcare, and IT fields. Extra support with transportation and healthy food helps students overcome additional barriers to success. Serving 600 individuals annually, Academy of Hope brings real hope to this generation – and the next.
