In the hands-on, outdoor settings at its environmental campus (Maryland's first fully certified Living Building) and at partner parks throughout the region, 10,000 students a year learn about science, sustainability, and the human impact on an environment we all share. Through fully immersive STEM-focused education, AFF helps students discover how they can be scientists too. They explore meadow and forest ecosystems, meet and observe animals, learn about landscape health and Maryland's cultural heritage, investigate pollinators and composting, and more. In addition, AFF participates in the Trash Free Potomac Watershed Initiative, which seeks to eliminate trash at its source. Each year, hundreds of volunteers engage in cleanups and litter-reduction efforts across Prince George's County and the broader watershed. Community events and prevention education inspire lasting stewardship, transforming how residents understand and protect their natural world.
