Part of the global Special Olympics movement, SODC uses the transformative power of sport to unleash the human spirit. Health, education, and community building are also on the agenda, and together they change the lives of people with intellectual disabilities, addressing the injustice, isolation, intolerance, and inactivity they face. Twelve sports are offered year-round, among them basketball, bowling, golf, soccer, skating, tennis, track, and volleyball – all culminating in three championships: the fall, winter, and summer games. In addition, medical screenings and inclusion programs mean healthier lives and the development of valuable skills for success in school and self-advocacy in life. In June 2022, a delegation of 30 athletes and partners competed in the USA Games in Orlando, Florida with more than 5,000 athletes from all 50 states. Loyal supporters make everything, including travel to USA and World Games, free.
